Border Control/Immigration Climate Change Judging Trump Bringing Left & Right Together

SUMMARY/TALKING POINTS

President Trump has been vilified for his comments and actions regarding illegal immigration. But many Democrats have said and done the same things. Video clips show Nancy Pelosi, Bernie Sanders, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, Bill Clinton, Barack Obama, and Hillary Clinton agreeing with him on controlling our Southern Border. Comments include:

Pelosi: We certainly don’t want any more coming in.

Obama: An influx of low skill workers threatens to depress the wages of blue-collar Americans and puts strains on an already overburdened safety net.

Obama: We have an actual humanitarian crisis on the border that only underscores the need to drop the politics and fix our immigration system.

Obama: Speaks on how dangerous it is for children trying to reach our border and saying they will be sent back anyway.

Obama: We simply cannot allow people to pour into the United States undetected, undocumented, unchecked and circumventing the line of people who are waiting patiently, diligently, and lawfully to become immigrants.

Hillary Clinton: We have to send a clear message—just because your child gets across the border that doesn’t mean the child gets to stay. We don’t want to encourage more children to make that dangerous journey.

There are many other quotes in the clips.

In 1996 President Clinton signed the law allowing separation of children from parents who enter the country illegally. President Obama enforced that law for two terms. At one point he had over 100,000 children in migration related detention centers.

It’s the job of the President and Congress to focus on the rights of Americans.

That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t care about other countries. We do. We’re the most generous country in the world. Last year we gave $49 billion dollars foreign aid to 217 countries.

The way to help the most people of other countries is not to let a few come into our country, but to help their country--with their infrastructure, education, healthcare, and capital investment.

ICE should be supported. As of Nov. 2018, 2,000 child predators, 1,900 murderers, 2,000 kidnappers, and 11,800 sexual predators are in jail, convicted, and being deported thanks to the men and women of ICE.

Many Democrats support sanctuary cities which appear to care more about criminal illegal immigrants than their own residents. These cities harbor dangerous illegals with criminal records that are not reported to ICE.

Illegal immigrants cost America at least $116 billion a year.

There are many legal ways for potential immigrants to enter the country: get a visa or follow the legal immigration process. Also, there are 28 ports of entry on our southern border where anyone can walk up and request asylum. (But see below*.)

The more we can deter illegal immigration, the fewer problems there will be. Any policy or program that benefits illegal immigrants will encourage more illegal immigration and increase the magnitude of our problems and theirs. More incentives to illegal immigrants results in more people put in the hands of criminals, more women raped, more children abused, and the cartels getting richer.

Our 2000-mile Southern border has only 650 miles of fencing, much of it only waist high. But a solid wall stretching from the Rio Grande to the Pacific Ocean is not required because of terrain and other factors. The Border Patrol has identified 215 miles where a new barrier such as steel slats is desperately needed. Republicans support immediate construction of this fencing then future construction based on Border Patrol experts’ priorities.

We need to help the home countries of these migrants reduce the problems there, continue to work with Mexico to minimize the crisis at our borders, and work with the Democrats to achieve comprehensive immigration reform.

The Democrats appear to support open borders. Do they seriously believe anyone who can get to our border should be allowed to walk across (in President Obama’s words), “undetected, undocumented, unchecked and circumventing the line of people who are waiting patiently, diligently, and lawfully to become immigrants?”

DISCUSSION

1. Explaining Trump’s Policies

The Democrats and Mainstream Media have attacked President Trump mercilessly on how he has talked about the need for border control and not on the fact that it’s a good idea. Major media sources have changed their terminology to minimize the illegal immigration problem. The Associated Press Stylebook, intended as a universal guide for writers, considers “illegals,” “alien,” “illegal immigrant,” and “undocumented” unacceptable.

In November 2019, the AP ran a story to attack President Trump citing a UN report claiming that the U.S. had over 100,000 children in migration related detention facilities, more than any other country. The story was quickly retracted when it was realized that the UN report had been in 2015 when Obama was president.

In his book “The Audacity of Hope” Barack Obama said:

“… many blacks share the same anxieties as many whites about the wave of illegal immigration flooding our Southern border. The number of immigrants added to the labor force every year is of a magnitude not seen in this country for over a century. If this huge influx of mostly low-skill workers provides some benefits to the economy…it also threatens to depress further the wages of blue-collar Americans and puts strains on an already overburdened safety net.”

In 2014 President Obama said. “"We have an actual humanitarian crisis on the border that only underscores the need to drop the politics and fix our immigration system."

President Trump’s critics on the Left and in the Leftist media don’t seem to understand why he’s so focused on putting America first. There isn’t a country in the world that doesn’t put itself first. And according to the Constitution, that’s his job. The first three words in the Constitution are “We the people.” That means the American people. The Constitution is all about America and Americans. It grants no rights to people from other countries.

That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t care about other countries. We do. We’re the most generous country in the world. Last year we gave $49 billion dollars foreign aid to 217 countries.

The way to help the most people of other countries is not to let a few come into our country, but to help their country--with their infrastructure, education, healthcare, and capital investment so their Steve Jobs’ and Jeff Bezos’s can build big businesses that employ hundreds of thousands of people. Amazon has more than 500,000 employees and Apple has more than 400,000 in the United States. And Apple says it has indirectly created 10 times that number of jobs related to its products and services.

A president’s highest priority is to keep our country safe. The first sentence of the Constitution includes the words “provide for the common defense.” That’s why President Trump has taken such a strong stance on border control. We have to know who’s coming into our country.

There are many problems with illegal immigration Mainstream Media doesn’t address. With no wall to stop them, it’s fairly easy for criminals, sex traffickers, drug runners, and even terrorists to sneak into the country. And people including children who are just looking for better way of life are encouraged to take dangerous risks with criminal smugglers across life threatening terrain.

In this clip a border patrol agent describes some of the horrors of illegal immigration including child rape and a 9-year-old dying from heat stroke.

Here’s proof that President Trump is correct when he says many illegal immigrants are criminals and dangerous. For example, during the period 6/1-2011-12/31/2019, in Texas alone illegal immigrants were convicted of: 262 homicides; 1,845 sexual assaults; 1,359 weapons charges; 14,534 assaults; 3,335 burglaries; 18,904 drug charges; 182 kidnappings; 7,406 thefts; and 1,063 robberies.

Here’s a BBC News article about 4 suspected ISIS members arrested in Nicaragua and suspected of trying to get to America

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-latin-america-48773780

The worst criminals sneaking into the United States are the gangs such as the 10,000-strong El Salvador-based MS-13. It’s a serious problem. In one six-week operation alone ICE’S anti-gang Surge force captured 1,095 illegal immigrants associated with gangs.

The importance of border control was illustrated in early 2020 after the Coronavirus outbreak. As of March 4, since January, 328 Chinese nationals trying to cross the Mexican border into the United States had been apprehended by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials.

This article explores what illegal immigrants cost America, estimated to be at least $116 billion a year.

There are many legal ways for potential immigrants to enter the country: get a visa or follow the legal immigration process. Also, there are 28 ports of entry on our southern border where anyone can walk up and request asylum. (Currently our systems are being overwhelmed by asylum seekers. Most cite dangerous gangs and/or a lack of opportunity in their place of origin. Republicans have great sympathy for anyone living in these circumstances, but that is not what international asylum laws are for. If those circumstances meet asylum standards, then entire populations of multiple Central America countries and billions of other people around the world would qualify for asylum in America. America need to help the home countries of these migrants reduce the problems there, continue to work with Mexico to minimize the crisis at our borders, and encourage Democrats to work with Republicans to achieve comprehensive immigration reform.)

The more we can deter illegal immigration, the fewer problems like those described above there will be. Any policy or program that benefits illegal immigrants will encourage more illegal immigration and increase the magnitude of our problems and theirs. According to Tom Homan the retired director of ICE, more incentives offered to illegal immigrants results in more people put in the hands of criminals, more women raped, more children abused, and the cartels getting richer.

Final thought on immigration policy The Democrats appear to support open borders. 2. Trump Border Control/Immigration Accomplishments

The Dec 31, 2019 fact sheet at the following site includes a summary of President Trump’s border control and immigration accomplishments.

https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefings-statements/president-donald-j-trump-delivered-record-breaking-results-american-people-first-three-years-office/

Highlights are summarized here:

President Trump has taken historic steps to confront the crisis on our Nation’s borders and to uphold and improve our immigration laws and policies.

a. Border Control

The Administration expects to have approximately 450 miles of new wall on our Southern Border by the end of 2020.

The President struck new agreements with Mexico, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras to help stop the flood of illegal immigration. The United States is dismantling the human smuggling networks that fuel the border crisis by exploiting vulnerable populations. President Trump negotiated the Migrant Protection Protocols, requiring certain migrants to wait in Mexico during their immigration proceedings instead of allowing them to disappear into our country.

Thanks to the President’s swift action, border apprehensions fell by more than 70 percent from May – the peak of the crisis – to November.

The Trump Administration is stopping deadly drugs and violent criminals from flowing across our borders and into our communities.

-Customs and Border Protection (CBP) seized more than 163,000 pounds of cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, and fentanyl at the southern border in FY 2019.

-The United States Coast Guard seized more than 458,000 pounds of cocaine at sea in FY 2019 and referred nearly 400 suspected drug smugglers for prosecution.

-U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) seized over 1.4 million pounds of narcotics and made more than 12,000 narcotic-related arrests in FY 2019.

-Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) seized over 50,000 kilograms of methamphetamine and over 2,700 kilograms of fentanyl in FY 2019.

-CBP apprehended 976 alien gang members in FY 2019, including 464 aliens affiliated with MS-13.

-ICE HSI made over 4,000 arrests of gang members in FY 2019, including over 450 arrests of MS-13 members.

b. Immigration

President Trump released an immigration plan to fully secure our border, modernize our laws, and promote an immigration system based on merit.

President Trump is working to combat the abuse of our asylum system that drives illegal immigration.

The Trump Administration is cracking down on sanctuary cities and increasing cooperation at the local level on immigration enforcement.

The Administration took action to protect taxpayers by ensuring that aliens wishing to enter or remain in our country are able to support themselves and not rely on public benefits.

The President issued a proclamation to ensure immigrants admitted to America do not burden our healthcare system.

The President has taken action to reduce nonimmigrant visa overstays, a problem that undermines the rule of law, impacts public safety, and strains resources needed for the border.

President Trump made our country safer by ordering the enhanced vetting of individuals attempting to come to America from countries that do not meet our security standards.

The President is taking a responsible approach to refugee admissions, prioritizing refugee resettlement in jurisdictions where both State and local governments consent to receive them. This order is designed to ensure that refugees are placed in an environment where they will have the best opportunity to succeed in their new homes.
